A little trip down to 'That London' to see the poppies and do a bit of sight seeing...
Thursday 25 October
An early start to get to our little hotel in South Woodford - basic but well out of the London charging zones, free parking and breakfast, near a tube station - good enough for us!
Firstly a ride to Leicester Square to pick up the London Passes - then we were off. First stop Westminster Abbey via Big Ben...
Then onto the boat to cruise up the Thames to Tower Bridge with more land marks en route...
And our first look at the poppies in the moat at Tower Bridge...
Then into the Tower of London for a look round and a talk by one of the Beefeaters...
One of the ravens was sitting on a cannon...
And on the way out we watched some of the volunteers adding more poppies...
They were working in an area where there was another flow of poppies which looked as though they were splashing out of the moat...
At 6.30 a list of names was read out and then a lone guard played the last post - watched by a Chelsea pensioner - very moving...
By this time it was dusk so we headed back to the boat and a trip back to London Bridge taking in more of the sights looking very different in the dark...
We then got off the boat and walked all the way back down the south bank to Tower Bridge - where we had just come from!!... But we stopped for a meal on the way - looking out over the river to St Paul's Cathedral...
A final look at the poppies from another side in the dark and then back to the hotel...
... with a very drunk man cuddled up to Mike for most of the way! Mike is checking out how many stops he has before he can get off!...
Friday 26 October
More tourist stuff and more eating and drinking!...
Greenwich...
Golden Hind....
and HMS Belfast...
The beautiful Globe theatre...
Buzzing atmosphere and great market!!
Quick stop off at Platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross for the Hogwarts Express...
... and then home - footsore and weary but very pleased to have done so much on our little jaunt to That London!...

Canal trip from Little Venice to Camden Lock past all the posh houses...
Eclectic lunch from various stalls - eaten sitting on vespas (lambrettas??) overlooking the Lock - lovely!...
Buzzing atmosphere and great market!!

A wander round Churchill's War Rooms...
Horseguards Parade - and a bit of dressing up in the museum (there were no kids around so I could pinch their costumes!)...
A quick walk round a few more iconic places...
... and then home - footsore and weary but very pleased to have done so much on our little jaunt to That London!...
