Nov 13: INDIA Days 5 Nov: Looking for tigers!...

Several of our group members are now reading this blog along with you lot at home so I will have to remember to be nice about them and not say anything nasty!!  (Not difficult as they are a pretty friendly bunch!)

And I also hear that we have gone international so hello to Naomi's mum!

Tuesday 5 November

We discovered that our little resort apartments had nearly as much wildlife indoors as outdoors.  We had to evict a small frog from the door to our bathroom and then Gr M had to go next door to help put out a huge spider which was sitting by a light fitting.

It was in a tricky place and couldn't be reached so Gr M, Lorraine and Noel had to resort to throwing cushions at it and then spraying it a bit to make it move.  They eventually managed to knock it into a bucket and put it outside!

We got up at 5am for our first tiger safari.  It was COLD!

After a half hour drive we transferred to open jeeps and off we went with a driver and a guide.

It was great fun and we warmed up after an hour or so.  There were other jeeps doing the same thing so we were all shooting around and passing each other and the guides were all passing information to each other.
One of the first things we saw were TIGER FOOTPRINTS!

We saw lots of other wildlife on our safari but the tigers were very elusive - we kept missing them by just a few minutes.

The guides know their movements and can tell if there is one nearby if the monkeys or birds begin to screech.  Very clever!

The whole park is very beautiful and was covered in dew as the sun rose.

All the jeeps suddenly sped off to one area as it was hoped that the female tiger would cross the area of grass in front of us to get back to her cubs.

Everyone waited - and waited - and waited... and nothing!

But it was very funny to see the huge queue of jeeps stretching into the distance and all lined up trying to get a glimpse of the elusive tiger!  And the scenery was glorious and we did see lots of other animals...

Then later our guide suddenly shouted "Tiger!" and we all turned round to look where he was pointing and saw .....
nothing but trees and grass!

All except Debbie whose eyes had luckily fixed on the exact spot where the tiger was walking through the foliage so she had seen him for several seconds as he walked out of view.

She was thrilled to bits and said it had given her goose bumps!!  Lucky girl!

So that was the only sighting in our group of the tiger (apart from the one on Grandad's 'emergency' hat that he had to buy to protect his head) - even though we went out again in the late afternoon.

But we saw lots of other wildlife and had lots of fun!

In the evening we watched some local dancers and some of us even joined in for a bit of a jungle boogie!

So a nice end to our tiger hunting - but we decided that this tiger in the restaurant must be the most photographed one in the whole park!
