March 14: Iceland Days 4 - 5

Tuesday 4 March

What a nice surprise this morning - SNOW!

We were picked up to be taken to Reykjavik and we did the Golden Coast tour from there. The Gulfoss waterfall was magnificent.  The pictures speak for themselves...

It snowed for most of the time that we were in the mountains so everything was misty and cloudy - but still very beautiful.

We stopped for a very welcome warm and a coffee...

Then back in the coach and off to the geysers...

When we got back to Keflavik most of the snow had gone but there was a beautiful evening light. They call it the 'blue' light of dusk and for some reason the camera on my phone enhances it and it looks lovely!

I then spent a quiet hour in the hot tub looking at the stars until the sky clouded over. So no aurora tonight then...

Wednesday 5 March

More snow. And a quiet day.

We walked down to the cave to leave our grand children's dummies on the Giantess's tree.  Some were Callum's and some were Joe's so we had virtually oldest to youngest.

The weather changed every half hour today - or so it seemed! It went from fine to light snow to blizzard to sunshine to fine to cloudless to sun to snow to absolutely grey etc etc...

Mike mostly stayed in reading his book and drinking hot chocolate - as he was still full of cold - and I did a few short walks in between the snow squalls.

I then spent a couple of hours in the hot tub reading my book. Lovely in the snow and fine periods with a mug of hot chocolate but a bit hard on the face in the sudden hail storm!

The clouds cleared briefly in the evening and we were able to wrap up and walk up the hill to see what was happening.

No wind like the first evening where Mike had to hang onto his tripod when taking pictures - all just nice and calm - and the Aurora appeared very briefly for us...

Weren't we lucky - and how gorgeous are the colours!

These are pictures enhanced from my small camera - not quite the same!!...

A bit different!...
